History

Borough Care was set up in 1993 as an Industrial and Provident Society with charitable status, and took over the management of 8 Stockport homes in April 1994. The homes were owned by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), and had previously been run by Tameside Enterprises Limited, and before that, by Stockport Council.

Those homes were Cawood in Brinnington, Hulme Hall in Cheadle Hulme, Lisburne Court in Offerton, Marbury in Heaton Chapel, Reinbek in Davenport, Silverdale in Bredbury, Vernon House near Vernon Park, and Wellcroft in Gatley.

In 1997 Hulme Hall was closed, and Borough Care took over the management of a further 5 homes from SMBC. They were Bamford in Cale Green, Belmont in Heaton Norris, Bryn Haven in Brinnington, Meadway in Bramhall, and Shepley in Hazel Grove.

Initially the homes were run in partnership with SMBC, with Borough Care being responsible for the operation of the service and staffing, and SMBC having some responsibility for maintenance of the buildings. However in 2000 new arrangements were negotiated giving Borough Care long term security and total responsibility for the maintenance and development of the buildings.

Management

The governing body is the Board of Directors who are unpaid volunteers. Members of the Board are mainly local people who have experience of business or the health and social care sector. Members of the Board meet monthly and also carry out regular visits to the homes. From time to time vacancies arise on the Board, so we welcome expressions of interest in joining us.
