Borough Care employs around 600 staff, most of whom work part
time. Vacancies arise from time to time in most homes, and in
addition we have a bank of casual staff who work as and when
required to cover staff sickness, holidays etc. Many people join us
initially to work on the casual bank, and then obtain a permanent
post with us. All posts carry paid holidays, pension scheme,
training provided, sick pay scheme after qualifying period.
If you would like further information about any of our vacancies,
or would like to apply, please contact the home who will arrange an
interview for you. Alternatively, you can download an application
form, and return it to us.
Successful applicants cannot commence work until two satisfactory
references and health clearance is obtained. All posts require
disclosure from CRB. Please note, however, that a past conviction
will not necessarily prevent you from being employed; that would
depend on the type of offence and the date of conviction. Ask for
our policy statement on recruitment of offenders. If you can work
as part of a team or individually and want to make a difference to
the lives of the people we support, then you could be just who we
are looking for.

Jobs at Borough Care
Housekeeper:
Providing residents with a clean and comfortable home is an
essential part of the care we provide. Housekeepers are responsible
for keeping clean and tidy all areas of the home, including
residents rooms. Some housekeeping staff work in the laundry or in
the kitchen, assisting the cook. All housekeepers have lots of
contact with the residents and are an important part of the care
team.
Job Requirements
You need to be fairly fit, and like working with elderly people.
Housekeepers work on a rota basis, but there is less evening work
than care assistants, though there are some evening only
posts.
Training and Prospects
You will be given a period of induction training, and training and
instruction on the health and safety aspects of your job. There are
opportunities to do NVQ level 1 & 2 in cleaning buildings in
conjunction with a local college. Some housekeepers move on to care
assistant posts, and a number of our current supervisory and
management staff started in housekeeping posts.
Night Care Assistants:
All our homes have two or three waking night staff working from
10pm to 8am. These are generally more experienced care assistants
who are able to work without supervision. Ideally you should have
an NVQ2 and/or 2 years experience. A senior member of staff is in
the building at all times.
Cooks:
All food in Borough Care Homes is cooked in each individual home,
and is an important part of the residents lives. Each home has a
senior cook who is responsible for menu planning and the smooth
running of the kitchen, as well as ensuring that all environmental
health rules are complied with. He or she is assisted by a cook and
kitchen housekeeping staff
Job Requirements
A good standard of cooking is required as well as an interest in
working with elderly people. The cooks are expected to communicate
regularly with residents to ensure that their preferences are met
in menu planning.
Training and Prospects
All staff involved in food preparation are trained to certificate
level in food handling. Further training is available on an
individual basis. Kitchen staff often progress to becoming cooks,
and cooks to senior cook.
