We are led by a strong, committed Executive Team whose vision is to continually improve the quality of life for the people in our care. You can read out latest Annual Review here.
Mark joined the team in 2017. Previously working with OnSide Youth Zones, where he headed up the delivery of a national network of 21st Century youth facilities. He also brings with him a wealth of experience in the voluntary and care sectors, including Chief Executive roles at Groundwork Manchester and the Deafness Support Network. In his spare time Mark loves to watch his favourite football team, Everton, but you might not want to go head to head with him as he’s a black belt in karate and trains regularly with his son Alfie.
Head of Care
Valerie has been with Borough Care for an incredible 31 years. Starting as a casual Night Care Assistant she has shown talent, commitment and ambition working her way up the ranks to become Head of Care. Having managed four of the 11 homes that make up the Borough Care family, Val has a wealth of indispensable knowledge and understanding, and uses her first-hand experience to help guide and support our team of Home Managers. As well as a passion for delivering excellent care, Val is also very proud of her children and her grandchildren and spends as much time as she can with them. She also loves food! From shopping to cooking to eating, Val enjoys all things culinary and can often be found reading a cookery book on her lunch break.
Head of HR
With over 13 years’ experience in HR, spanning a wide range of sectors including digital, creative, retail and finance, we were thrilled when Jayne joined the Borough Care Team as Head of HR in the summer of 2018. Her passion for effecting positive behaviour change and creating an open and communicative culture is a perfect fit with Borough Care. Jayne likes to unwind with a run, she also loves live music, often going to gigs in her spare time.
Head of Finance
As Head of Finance, Nick Pennell certainly has a head for figures, having previously worked for accounting giant KPMG as their Deputy Finance Director of Learning Services. Joining us in the autumn of 2019, he is responsible for managing our finance team, updating our financial processes and capabilities, and helping us to improve efficiency, through the introduction of new technology and systems. Outside of work, Nick loves to spend time in the garden of his home in Peak District, especially when joined by his wife and two cats. He also loves walking, camping, eating, ‘Dad’ jokes, 70’s music and playing his guitar ‘badly’.
