Borough Care Colleagues Take Inspiration from Resident Marathon Legend

Manchester Marathon 2026

Borough Care is proud to announce that two members of its team will be taking on the Manchester Marathon 2026. Rob, CEO and Claire, Management Accountant at Borough Care, are both currently in training for the iconic 26.2-mile challenge — inspired by a remarkable resident within the Borough Care community.

As preparations for race day began, Rob discovered that Brian, a resident at Hen Cloud House in Leek, is a true marathon legend. Over the years, Brian has completed some of the world’s most prestigious races, including the London Marathon, the Berlin Marathon and the New York City Marathon. Remarkably, Brian ran his final marathon at the age of 85 — an extraordinary achievement that continues to inspire those around him.

Drawing on his wealth of experience, Brian has been sharing training advice, race-day tips and words of encouragement ahead of Rob and Claire’s challenge.

“It’s been amazing to learn from someone with so much experience,” said Rob. “Brian has such a wealth of knowledge about running, and his encouragement has made the training even more motivating.”

In the spirit of Borough Care’s values, Rob and Claire have also chosen to use the marathon as an opportunity to give back. After asking Brian if there was a cause he would recommend, Brian suggested supporting a charity that helps people in the later stages of life. Taking that advice to heart, Rob and Claire will be raising funds for Age UK as they run, with all donations going towards making a meaningful difference to the lives of older people. Whilst Rob and Claire are embracing the challenge of the Manchester Marathon, it remains to be seen whether they will take on Brian’s challenge to beat his impressive sub 3 hour finish in the London Marathon! Realistically, Rob says, finishing the race in one piece will be a good start and then see what the race clock states! All in all though, it’s an experience both want to enjoy to the fullest.

Colleagues across Borough Care’s homes and teams are being encouraged to show their support — whether through words of encouragement, cheering on race day or contributing to the fundraising efforts. Inspired by Brian’s incredible achievement of completing his final marathon at 85, Rob and Claire will be heading to the start line determined to do him, and the entire Borough Care community, proud.
