šŸ’ Spreading Joy at Borough Care on Valentine’s Day šŸ’

By 14 February 2024Borough Care News

With Valentineā€™s Day taking place today, we wanted to do something thoughtful for our residents, especially those who experience loneliness as a result of having few visitors, loved ones who live far away, or who just needed a bit of cheering up today.

At Borough Care, we all believe in spreading love and joy in every way we can, and this year, partnered with David the Giving Garden ProjectĀ andĀ made a plan to bring smiles and happiness to some of our residents this Valentine’s Day!

The Giving Garden Project was set up by David Tole in 2023. After visiting his grandmother in our Shepley House care home, David noticed that some of the other residents received few or even no visitors, and he wanted to do what he could to brighten their day.

When his grandma passed away in 2022, he used some of the money she left him to set up the Giving Garden Project. Last year, our CEO, Mark arranged to fund all of Davidā€™s flower deliveries for a year, in acknowledgment ofĀ our commitment to ensuring our residents live Life in Colour.

Peter from Shepley was speechless when handed his bouquet!

Earlier today, we hand-delivered bouquets of flowers to a selection of our residents in our Shepley House, Bruce Lodge and Reinbek care homes. Receiving a bouquet of flowers not only brightened their rooms, but also their day!

Reinbek’s Barry was delighted to receive a bunch of flowers.

Contrary to popular belief, men appreciate the beauty and sentiment behind receiving flowers just as much as anyone else! According to the Society of America Florists, 60% of men would love to be gifted fresh flowers, but only 12% of men ever receive flowers in their lifetime. Residents Barry and Peter were speechless when they were handed their bouquets!

Residents’ days were brightened by David’s visit.

Thank you to our Home Managers and ALFs for helping select the residents that most needed cheering up today. ResidentĀ Denise from Shepley was absolutely delighted when David handed her a bunch of colourful flowers. She saidĀ ā€˜This is just wonderful – it has really made my day!’

Mary was all smiles this Valentine’s Day!

Thank you to the Giving Garden Project for partnering with us on this meaningful initiative, and thank you to all our Borough Care colleagues for your dedication and compassion towards our residents today, and always.
