We’re celebrating LGBT+ History Month at Borough Care

By 1 February 2022Borough Care News

At Borough Care, our team is on a continuous journey to become a true ally of the LGBTQ+ community. This year, we will be marking LGBT+ History Month with a range of activities, both online and in our wonderful homes. We’re working all year round to understand the different needs of our people, to ensure staff and residents can be their authentic selves, and to promote the culture of equality that we are working very hard to achieve. When we talk about living life in colour, we mean everyone

LGBT+ History Month exists to promote equality and diversity globally, to educate the wider population all over the world about matters that affect the LGBT+ community, to work towards improving institutions and educational facilities so that all are safe places for LGBT+ people and to promote the idea that all who belong to the community can contribute to society, lead fulfilled lives and benefit themselves and others.

We know that older LGBTQ+ people can experience higher rates of loneliness and ill health, prejudice, and misunderstanding around their identity when they access health and social care. Here at Borough Care, our team is committed to equality and diversity in our care homes, both for residents and staff.

We are working on a programme of initiatives to better improve the quality of care and support for older LGBTQ+ people and we look forward to sharing more details over the coming weeks.

As well as learning more about LGBT+ History, our Activity and Lifestyle Facilitators (ALFs) have planned lots of fun activities throughout the month for our residents to get involved with, such as games, arts and crafts and coffee mornings where residents will have the opportunity to share stories and speak to others about their experiences. It’s vital that we continue to support our LGBTQ+ communities in every way we can. We’ll be sharing lots of updates of the activities across our homes on our social media channels, so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to keep up to date.
