Dementia Action Week (DAW) launches on 20th May 2019 and Borough Care is getting fully behind this amazing initiative. The aim is to unite people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.
Many of us worry about ‘saying the wrong thing’ to someone with dementia, but a friendly face or listening ear can make the world of difference.
This Dementia Action Week, Alzheimer’s Society is encouraging everyone to take action by starting a conversation; whether it’s calling a relative with dementia or visiting a neighbour. To help you get started, we’ve come up with ‘5 Conversation Starters’ that can help you begin that all important conversation with someone living with dementia.
Each of our homes will be supporting DAW and we would love it if you could get involved. On Monday 20th May, Reinbek will be hosting a talk about dementia for residents and their loved ones, helping to get the conversation started on this important issue. The talk will take place from 2-4pm, there will be tea and cakes, and residents and family members from all of our homes will be welcome.
On Tuesday 21st May, Marbury House will be hosting dementia talks with expert carers, as well as a reminiscence evening for residents which includes a cinema screening of a classic film and a walk down memory lane with our reminiscence boxes aimed to help those living with dementia remember fond memories.
On Wednesday 22nd May representatives from all of our homes will be taking part in the Woodbank Dementia Walk from 2-4pm. We’d love it if you could join us!
