We’re sharing a real-life fairy-tale as part of our continuing ‘My Story’ series, in which we get to know one of our residents a little better. It’s a chance to find out about the colourful lives they have led and the people and places they hold dear.
Today we’re meeting Meadway Court resident, Evelyn Ahern, who celebrated her wedding anniversary to husband Tom Ahern on 12th August after 58 years of marriage.
However, the course of true love didn’t run completely smoothly for these two lovebirds.
Evelyn and Tom met at a dance in Cork, Ireland when they were sixteen and began courting. Their relationship was tested when Evelyn was seventeen and moved to England with her family. They agreed to continue a long-distance relationship.
After three long years, Tom finally completed his apprenticeship and moved to England to be with his sweetheart, Evelyn.
Just a year later the reunited couple exchanged wedding vows in Whalley Range, Manchester and became Mr and Mrs Ahern, they went on to have three daughters.
Evelyn has lived with us at Meadway Court for two and a half years, with her husband Tom coming in to see her every single day.
Congratulations to Evelyn and Tom on their anniversary from everyone at Borough Care.
