Look back at 2022 at Shepley House!

Shepley House residents have had a fantastic year, from a visit from Elvis to brilliant boat trips, they have truly lived Life in Colour! We want to extend a huge thank you and well done to new manager Amanda, ALF Bethany and everyone at Shepley for the fantastic activities and care they have provided their residents this year. We also want to say a big welcome to their new Manager Jon – we have no doubt there will be lots more great things to come for Shepley in 2023, but for now let’s take a look back at some of their highlights from 2022!

In February the team at Shepley House organised a special Valentines’ Day party, complete with party games and a live singer!

Shepley House residents also celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon tea. They even had a treat card set up with all of their favourite sweets.

Shepley House staff and residents had a brilliant day yesterday celebrating all things Irish! They had a live singer to provide the tunes and lots of dancing! Residents had loads of fun posing for photos with the Irish-themed props and enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by the catering team.

Residents and staff celebrated not one but two 90th birthdays in April! The team hosted a joint party for Muriel and Barbara’s big day, complete with plenty of music and cake. The residents even played a few party games and won some prizes. It looks like they had a wonderful time.

Also in April, residents played a few rounds of Higher or Lower? The Shepley House team set up an extra-special themed area to play the game, complete with card-themed bunting, blow-up dice, and plenty of sparkles. They even organised a prize table for the winners!

Our care homes went all out to celebrate her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June. Everything from luxury buffets to garden parties were in full swing across our homes to mark the very special occasion. Shepley House staff, residents and their families were all invited to a local street party to celebrate! Everyone indulged in an amazing royal-themed spread of scones, mini sandwiches and a Victoria sponge cake. They had the best time celebrating as a community.

At the end of June, residents had their first big trip out since 2020. They went on the New Horizons Canal Boat, a 70ft Narrowboat which offers fully accessible canal trips in Marple, Cheshire. The residents had an amazing day and loved being outside – even when it was raining!

The King of Rock and Roll himself headlined Shepley House’s Summer-themed festival in July! The residents had the most wonderful time singing and dancing along to a live performance from an Elvis impersonator.

For Afternoon Tea Week, which takes place every August, Shepley House chose to host an Alice in Wonderland-themed afternoon tea party. ALF Bethany really went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfectly on-theme and the residents had the most amazing time.

Shepley House had an eventful August – staff took 14 residents to Blackpool Zoo! They got caught in the rain and spent a lot of time in the elephant enclosure with cups of tea to stay dry. The residents loved being out in the fresh air looking at all of the different animals.

In October, Borough Care celebrated our Life in Colour Awards. We all got together at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport for the award ceremony in celebration of the incredible work that our team have all done over the last year. Jis Johnson, who is a Senior Care Assistant at Shepley House,  picked up The Amazing Addition Award for has showing such dedication and hard work. He received lots of nominations that highlighted the positive changes he has have made in the home since starting.

Also a winner on the night was Chloe Pollard who picked up an Outstanding Colourful Care Award for being a person who always provides exceptional individualised care and makes our residents smile the most.

For National Stress Awareness Day in November, ALF  Bethany put together a stress relief package for each staff member, including chocolates, candles, some stress relief tips and a Thank You card from the residents. It was a very thoughtful gesture, and all of the staff really appreciated it. Well done and thank you to Bethany!

Also in November, residents Malvina, June, Muriel and John along with ALF Bethany enjoyed a trip to The Plaza yesterday to see a Christmas sing-a-long show. They had an amazing time getting into the festive spirit!

With Christmas upon us, Shepley House invited all their residents’ families to come and help put the home’s Christmas trees up. They had families in each room decorating with the residents and listening to Christmas music. Cook Bash put an amazing cheese and wine night on for everyone, and ALF Bethany wanted to give a special mention to housekeeper Hazel who helped out so much on the night. It was an amazing evening with lots of festive spirit!
