Reinbek’s residents and staff have had a year filled with fun and laughter! Thank you to everyone at the home for giving residents so many opportunities to live Life in Colour this year. Let’s take a look back at some of Reinbek’s best bits of 2022!…
In January, Marilyn the Chihuahua took a trip to Reinbek to visit residents and staff. The residents couldn’t get enough of her – they all took it in turns to give her a cuddle and didn’t want to give her back!
Residents and staff showed their support for LGBTQ+ history with a celebration, complete with bright clothing, rainbow cake and plenty of fun! Borough Care is proud to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, not just during LGBTQ+ History Month in February, but always.
Reinbek residents celebrated Send A Card To A Friend Day in February. Resident Jeanette made her card for her best friend of 70-years, Jean. Friendships are so important for our residents and can help to boost their sense of well-being, fight loneliness and improve their overall health.
Everyone at Reinbek had a fantastic afternoon celebrating St Patrick’s Day in March. Alan Keegan, the voiceover for Manchester United came to celebrate, as did Tony Epsom who sang some Irish songs. Residents relaxed at the pop-up pub and enjoyed a performance by Fahys Irish Dancers! Reinbek’s resident Irish Queen Elena had a fantastic day!
The residents at Reinbek got a lovely surprise on Easter Sunday, when they were visited by the Easter bunny and chicken. There were plenty of chocolate eggs to go round and everyone had a fabulous day!
A beautiful moment was captured at Reinbek in April. Our lovely resident Jean was over the moon when her daughter Suzanne, who is a hairdresser, took her to the home’s salon and did her hair.
Staff, residents and their families had an amazing outdoor party to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in June complete with buffet picnic and lots of drinks! They also arranged a very special meet up between 10 year old Teddie and 100 year old Clifford today. So special was the meeting, that the story ended up in the paper! Clifford was absolutely thrilled to see himself in the Manchester Evening News. Find out what happened when Clifford met ten year old Teddie at the care home
Residents enjoyed following along with Wimbledon in July. So much so that they created their own tennis-themed arts and crafts!
In September, the residents really enjoyed making their own pizzas which were meant to be for their tea later that day. However, they simply couldn’t wait to eat them and asked cook Kim to put them straight in the oven!
Reinbek had a lovely afternoon at their Halloween party complete with their very own coven of witches! They had an entertainer who came in to ensure everyone had a sing and dance, followed by an amazing buffet thanks to Kim.
Also in October, we celebrated the Life in Colour Awards at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport with 150 members of our amazing Borough Care team. It was a fabulous evening that saw 19 incredible individuals and three terrific teams win awards. Brahim Karak El Ghazi, who is a Housekeeper at Reinbek, picked up an Outstanding Colourful Care Award to recognise the exceptional individualised care and smiles he provides to Reinbek’s residents every day.
We interviewed resident Lesley and her best friend Anne for International Day of Friendships. They talked about their love of taking the bus from Stockport Bus Station and travelling all over Greater Manchester with their free bus passes. We love hearing stories about our residents’ lives, so we were thrilled when Stagecoach invited Lesley and Anne to take a trip down memory lane on a VIP bus trip in October. They had a fantastic day reminiscing about their friendship. Watch the video here.
Residents had a lovely afternoon in December listening to Christmas songs and singing along as they made their own beautiful Christmas cards for their loved ones
Last week, staff came to work in their Christmas pyjamas to put a smile on the residents’ faces. Looking fab everyone! Christmas is truly in full swing at Reinbek!
