Sally Turns 100

Sally McGrath, a resident at Bamford Close recently celebrated her milestone 100th birthday.

Sally received a birthday card from the Queen, along with lots of other cards and presents from family and friends. Despite the current restrictions on visits, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sally had window visits throughout the day from her seven children and some of her grandchildren, who came to see her two at a time due to social distancing.

Sally was treated to a special birthday cake, complete with a number 100 birthday candle, which was made by the Bamford Close catering team.

Sally was born in Derry, Northern Ireland.  She has lived in Stockport for around forty years and moved to Bamford Close five years ago. Sally has seven children, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.  During her working life, Sally’s jobs included a seamstress in a factory, a home help and a cleaner.  She was also a nun in a convent in Dublin for five years.  Sally has had an active social life, which continues at Bamford Close.  She learned to swim when she was in her eighties and also taught Thai Chi in her eighties; to what she classed as the ‘old people’, as they were all over sixty.  A lady with a very positive outlook on life, Sally loved to travel, sing and dance, and was the life and soul of any party in her younger days.
