JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: LAUNDRY PERSON 

Responsible to: HOUSEKEEPING TEAM LEADER 

Accountable to: HOME MANAGER OR SENIOR MEMBER OF STAFF ON DUTY

 Job Purpose To maintain a high standard of laundry within the establishment.

 Key Responsibilities

 • To work in a manner which promotes a high standard of safety and efficiency. Safety regulations must be adhered to at all times, and the Laundry Person must ensure that he/she works in a manner which is safe to themselves, their colleagues and the residents.

 Main Duties • To launder residents clothing, bedding and linen and other linen used in the establishment.

 • To ensure that the items in 2 above are properly ironed and aired and that any minor repairs are attended to.

 • To ensure that residents personal items of clothing are labelled using the designated ‘Snappy Tag’ system.

 • To collect and distribute all laundry, taking special care that residents clothes are returned correctly.

 • Where necessary to use the sluicing programme for foul linen prior to laundering. 

• To keep the laundry and drying areas in a clean and hygienic condition.

 • To ensure equipment is kept in a good working order, and adhere to manufacturers instructions for care and maintenance.

 • To encourage residents to assist in daily living tasks, to offer meaningful occupation, eg. folding and putting away laundry. 

 • Such other duties related to laundry within the home as may be required by the Home Manager. PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Qualifications 

• No formal qualification. 

• NVQ Level II in housekeeping. Knowledge 

• Ability to use and maintain essential cleaning equipment. 

• Must be prepared to attend such training sessions as are deemed necessary by management

. • Good working knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety Policy and Procedures and its importance in the home. 

• Good working knowledge of infection control guidelines. Experience / Skills 

• Must have demonstrated the ability to work both as a team member and on own initiative. 

• Able to organize and complete routine tasks to set standards.

 • Awareness of the need to respect resident’s privacy and individuality

 • Must be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.

 • At least one year laundry/housekeeping experience in a residential setting. Personal 

• Good verbal and written communication skills 

• To be friendly, helpful and courteous. 

• To have a liking for older people and the ability to relate to them in a sensitive manner.
