World Alzheimer’s Month

By 3 September 2019Borough Care News

Did you know it’s World Alzheimer’s Month this September?

As an issue that affects so many of our residents, we want to help educate people to better support those living with dementia and do our bit to raise funds for the amazing Alzheimers’ charities that provide vital support and research.

September 2019 will mark the eighth World Alzheimer’s Month. The campaign aims to increase dementia awareness and challenge stigma. During this time, organisations around the world will be holding information events, as well as Memory Walks, media appearances and fundraising days. The impact of this campaign is growing, but the stigma and misinformation that surrounds dementia remains a global problem and challenge.

So many people find it difficult to comprehend the impact a dementia diagnosis can have on someone’s life, as well as the lives of their friends and families.

To help people share their experiences and get support from our experienced carers, we will be hosting a very special Alzheimer’s Day Afternoon Tea on 21st September. Each of the catering teams in our homes will be creating a delicious menu for you to sample and enjoy – while our expertly trained staff will be on hand to answer any dementia related questions you have. Please feel free to bring your own culinary creations with you as well. You can find out more details about this event on the noticeboards of our homes.

We will also be taking part in the weekly Dementia Walks in the beautiful surroundings of Woodbank Memorial Park. These walks are open to everyone and are a great way to connect and support those living with dementia. If you would like to join us, please speak to the Activity and Lifestyle Facilitators we have in each of our homes.
