Doing Dementia Differently: Our Residents’ Amazing Day Out!

The ‘Doing Dementia Differently’ event returned to Stockport Plaza on July 1st for the first time since 2019, this time featuring the Stockport-based ‘New Lights Big Band’ who performed throughout.

Around 900 people attended the event, with significant inclusion of residents from our care homes. Organisers wanted to say a big thanks to Borough Care’s Activity Lifestyle Facilitators for making this possible!

The Doing Dementia Differently Big Band Extravaganza celebrated the creative achievements of people living with dementia through the power of music.

Attendees heard from the inspirational ‘Doing Dementia Differently Intergenerational Choir’ who were delighted to recently feature on Vicky McClure’s “Our Dementia Choir Sings Again” programme.

Alongside important messages, films and stories about living with dementia, those who attended also heard a range of music spanning many decades including some famous hits from the Swing era. Rosie, who is the ALF at Bryn Haven said, ‘Our residents absolutely loved it!’

The Big Band was accompanied by a range of vocalists, dancers and cheerleaders from Stockport School and local primaries. Bamford Close’ ALF Joanne said, ‘It was a fab afternoon, with lots of singing and dancing.’

The event welcomed people from all over the local community to enjoy a fun and informative day and there were lots of opportunities for audience members to join in with well known songs. Silverdale’s ALF, Lindsay said, ‘It was an amazing afternoon of celebration.’

A big thank you and well done to our ALFs for taking part in this wonderful celebration!
