With Strictly back on our screens and capturing the country’s imagination, we thought we’d take the opportunity to remind you about our own, glittering, dance event that takes place every month!
That’s right. Borough Care hosts a monthly tea dance, starting at 2pm at Offerton Community Centre, on the second Monday of every month, and it is open residents, plus relatives and friends, from every home in our Borough Care family.
Each dance includes live music, delicious refreshments and the finest ‘moves’ our residents and staff can muster.
This is a great opportunity for residents from different homes to meet up and socialise. Dancing is an incredibly good form of exercise, helping with balance, stamina and muscle strength. And, the nostalgic music set from our live performers helps trigger fond memories for our residents living with dementia.
Joanne Sherratt, Wellcroft’s Activity and Lifestyle Facilitator, says, “Everyone is welcome at our Borough Care monthly tea dance. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or your dancing ability, there’s always a partner for everyone in this inclusive, fun and toe-tapping social activity.”
“It’s so nice to get together as one big family and have conversations with people you don’t see on a day to day basis. Our residents particularly enjoy it when a loved one comes to join them and can experience how much fun it is for themselves.”
Here are some lovely pictures from our tea dances. We were thrilled that so many people came along this month to enjoy our tea and cakes, mingle with our residents and have a boogie to singer Eddie, who serenaded the group with some golden-oldies and performed a sing-along medley that had everyone joining in.
If you would like to attend the next Borough Care tea dance, it will take place on Monday, 11 November. We’d love to see you there.
In the meantime… keep dancing!
