At Borough Care, we take huge pride in our homes being an integral part of their vibrant local communities. This is why we were thrilled when Meadway Court residents received an invite to St Michael and All Angels Church in Bramhall to experience their Wonderland Festival.
The festival is a multi-sensory interactive walk-through experience, based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The event was a treat for every sense and included a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party; a divine smelling hyacinth garden; a mushroom display featuring bubbles; and even a geisha!
Amanda Millett, Activity Lifestyle Facilitator at Meadway Court, who helped to organise the trip, said: “We had a fabulous morning at the Wonderland Festival. We were all so impressed with the organisation and effort the volunteers put into this event to make it such a fascinating experience.”
Meadway Court resident Pam Autherson is an active member of the Church and was keen to visit the Wonderland Festival. Pam said: “It was lovely to see so many people of all ages enjoying the Wonderland experience. My favourite character was the White Rabbit.”
Phyllis Price is staying temporarily at Meadway Court on an active recovery programme. She is a very lively 94-year-old and has really enjoyed participating in the wide range of activities we’ve organised while she has been staying with us. Phyllis said: “I never imagined that exploring Wonderland would be such an adventure. It was magical, going from one area to the next discovering the Alice in Wonderland story.”
We believe care homes should be at the heart of their communities. This means taking every opportunity to support those communities by joining in with local events. We also love to welcome community groups into our homes: we believe it is enriching for everyone involved! If you have an event to which you would like to invite our residents, or if you would like to arrange a visit to one of our homes, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
