Mayor of Stockport Joins Celebrations for Dorothy’s 100th Birthday

It’s not every day you turn 100, so when Bryn Haven checked their calendar and saw resident Dorothy Dempster’s big day was coming up, they began planning a huge bash to celebrate the big occasion!

Activity Lifestyle Facilitator, Rosie planned every detail including decorations, food, cake, entertainment and even a stunning gold tiara for the birthday girl to wear during the party. Rosie even got in touch with the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor David Wilson and Deputy Mayor Councillor Linda Holt who were more than happy to accept the invitation to attend the birthday bash.

Speaking at the party, Mayor Wilson said, It’s fantastic to be here in Brinnington today, especially on such a special occasion – the 100th centenary birthday of Mrs Dorothy Dempster! I give my best wishes to Dorothy and wish her a very happy birthday.’

It was a pleasure to have the Mayor at Bryn Haven, and he even joined in with a dance with some of the residents as singer Sam entertained everyone at the party.

Residents loved having a dance with the Mayor!

Lots of Borough Care’s staff have hidden talents, including Chloe, a senior carer at Shepley House who created Dorothy’s incredible birthday cake.

The cake was complimented by a beautiful buffet, thoughtfully put together by Catering Team members Denise, Debbie and Chris. The buffet included afternoon tea-style desserts alongside lots of delicious savoury finger food.

Dorothy was surrounded by family and friends as she opened lots of cards, including an extra-special one from King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla! The card reads ‘My wife and I are so pleased to know that you celebrate your one hundredth birthday on 17th May, 2023. This brings our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on such a special occasion.”

Dorothy is a much-loved resident at Bryn Haven. Staff say she loves to talk about her family, including son Martin and daughter Liz, alongside her four grandchildren. Dorothy was delighted when her family arrived at the home with cards, flowers and gifts.

Dorothy’s daughter, Liz, said ‘To see mum turn 100 today is fantastic. Last year, when she was in hospital, we were told she wasn’t going to make it through the night. It’s amazing to see her here celebrating her 100th birthday. The whole team at Bryn Haven have done an amazing job. We’d all like to say a huge thank you to Rosie, Amanda, the Mayor of Stockport and to everyone involved for such a brilliant afternoon.”
