Not content with hosting a huge community celebration for the King’s Coronation on 6th May, Cawood House’ Activity Lifestyle Facilitator, Leigh was ready for more action!
Leigh has been on a mission this year to create lots of magical ‘Life in Colour’ moments for her residents, and that Saturday, after the party, it was Lin’s turn. Lin is a life-long rugby fan and has been a huge supporter of the All Blacks for years. She has attended many rugby matches in her lifetime, including in New Zealand. Lisa, who is the care home manager at Cawood House, is a rugby fan herself, and aways makes sure that matches are shown in the home so that Lin can watch them. Lin recently told Leigh that she didn’t think she would ever have the opportunity to watch a rugby match live again, and that’s when Leigh decided her next mission – to prove Lin wrong!
Leigh got in touch with Sale Sharks and they jumped at the chance to help with Lin’s magic moment. Sale Sharks is a professional rugby union club from Greater Manchester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England’s top division of rugby. Lin, son Graham and Leigh went and watched Sale Sharks vs Newcastle Falcons at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles, Manchester. Lin was in her absolute element! Alex Lambie, Sale Sharks Rugby Development Officer met up with the trio at the game and made sure Lin was enjoying herself and even invited her back next season! It was an incredibly exciting match with Sale Sharks winning 54-12.
Lin said, ‘All the best rugby players come from the North! I’ve had such a perfect day, first the Coronation party and now the rugby – it’s like I dream come true.’
Lin’s son Graham said, ‘My mum has always been a huge fan of rugby, so it was a real treat for her to go watch Sale Sharks play. From the moment we got into the grounds, she had a big smile on her face and it was so good to see her engaged and enjoying the game. I am so grateful to Leigh and Sale Sharks for arranging this special afternoon and making my mum so happy.’
