TEAM SPOTLIGHT: JADE MARTIN

What is your role at Borough care?

I’m a Business Manager at Silverdale care home. I’m responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations within the home, ensuring that the quality of the services provided meet care standards.

This involves managing all the primary tasks and activities of the home; having a key role in determining whether standards of practice are being maintained; and continuously supporting and developing the staff team.

How long have you worked for Borough care?

I have worked at Borough Care for 11 years, starting at Bamford Close and then working at various other Borough Care homes through the years, before coming to Silverdale.

What does a day in your life at work look like?

In this role you have to be reactive, very level-headed, resilient and flexible as you speak to a lot of people each day, always auditing and checking.

When I arrive at Silverdale in the mornings, the first thing I do is say ‘good morning’ to all of the residents and have a handover from the staff. Then it’s laptop on, phone calls, emails, attending meetings and answering questions from the staff. No two days are ever the same as a care home Manager.

Silverdale is a lively home, so at some point in the day I will probably be seen having a sing or a dance in the corridor!

I like to always walk around the home to ensure everything is clean and tidy, so I can keep on top of any jobs that may need doing.

It’s an incredibly fulfilling job, not just for me but for the people we care for. The smile you get when you see the residents enjoy themselves is priceless.

What did you do before you joined Borough Care? What is your background?

Prior to joining Borough Care, I completed a diploma in childcare and education and gained a Level 2 in cabin crew and customer services.

Working in the care industry is something I have always felt passionate about and something I always wanted to pursue as a career.

Why did you decide to work for Borough Care?

I followed my mother’s footsteps, who was a Home Manager for Borough Care for 32 years. I have grown up within Borough Care, going into the homes from just a few months old. I even went around the homes from the age of five entertaining all the residents by doing Irish Dancing!

So, it was only fitting that I joined the Borough Care team, working my way up from a Housekeeper to a Home Manager, gaining knowledge and experience from working in various other Borough Care homes and having a support network of other Managers.

What is the best part of your job?

Seeing my home filled with fun and laughter; seeing all my residents happy and living life in colour; working with the staff to ensure we are always coming up with exciting and innovating ideas that help bring happiness to the residents and the staff.

I also love seeing how passionate and caring my staff are and how they go above and beyond each and every day to ensure they are making a difference to everyone they care for.
