In May, we officially opened Shoemaker Place! Our brand new luxury care home in Staffordshire opened its doors and welcomed its first residents. Created with luxury living in mind, Shoemaker Place provides residents with the highest quality of care in the beautiful setting of Stone. The whole team at Shoemaker Place are doing a brilliant job of bringing Life in Colour to Stone!
Let’s take a look back at some of their highlights from 2022…
When one of Shoemaker Place’s first residents, Eileen, was asked for her view on the home upon its opening, she said, ‘I am surprised at how nice it is. It is beautiful. The staff, the food – everything is just lovely. This place is bloody marvellous.’ It doesn’t get much more colourful than that!
Our care homes went all out to celebrate her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June. Everything from luxury buffets to garden parties were in full swing across our homes to mark the very special occasion. Shoemaker Place had a fantastic get-together with staff, residents and their families, complete with a buffet lunch in the sun.
Shoemaker’s Activity and Lifestyle Facilitator, Alex provided the home’s new residents with plenty of fun during the Summer months! They enjoyed a cocktail and mocktail class, a delicious truffle-making evening and a visit from a local singer who provided lots of brilliant music to dance to.
In July, Shoemaker Place residents Roy and Jean Ellerton had plenty to celebrate as they marked their 71st wedding anniversary! Read their story to find out about their hilarious wedding day hiccup, Jean’s nickname for her husband and Roy’s secret to a happy marriage.
In August, the home had a French-themed cheese and wine evening. Residents loved learning about which cheese pairs best with which wine and had fun getting dressed up in French-style costumes with their stripes and berets!
In September, Shoemaker Place achieved a phenomenal score of 9.9 out of 10 on carehome.co.uk! Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the home’s brilliant team, they were awarded the score based on lots of brilliant reviews coming in. Next stop, perfect 10! Borough Care celebrated our Life in Colour Awards in October. We all got together at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport for the award ceremony in celebration of the incredible work that our team have all done over the last year. Shoemaker Place’s cook team member Amanda Palmer was awarded an Outstanding Colourful Care award for her amazing dedication to providing high quality nutritional food to her residents, and for always making them smile!
This year the apetito Care Home Awards returned, celebrating the incredible work of all apetito’s care home partners. We were delighted to learn that Amanda was awarded the Mealtime Excellence Award. Huge congrats to Amanda!
Shoemaker Place residents created a beautiful memory tree together to display in the home. They put names and messages on wooden baubles in remembrance of the loved ones they will miss this Christmas, and really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk about the past and share memories together.
Christingle is a joyful celebration that brings families and communities together to spread a message of hope. Last week, Shoemaker got into the festive spirit and had a Christingle service where families and friends gathered to sing and enjoy some festive food and drinks together.
