Special Moments from This Year at Silverdale

By 13 December 2022Borough Care News

There was so much to celebrate this year at Silverdale. The whole team worked together to ensure there were plenty of Life in Colour moments throughout the year. The home was even awarded Care Home of the Year at Borough Care’s Life in Colour Awards in October! Massive thank you to Manager Jade, ALF Lindsay and everyone at Silverdale for their dedication to the home. Let’s take a look back of some their best bits of 2022!

At the start of 2022, Silverdale residents reflected on the previous year by sitting down and sharing what they were grateful for. Alice said that she was grateful for the team at Silverdale and was proud that she had made plenty of new friends. Shirley was grateful to be happy and healthy, and feeling more calm and content. Irene was grateful to be able to help people out every day and, like Alice, was happy to have made some new friends!

Back in February, residents at Silverdale started their Valentine’s Day celebrations with some custom card-making. After their craft session, residents all sat down to watch some of their favourite romantic films. The team put together Valentine’s Day sweet jars for each of the residents and treated everyone to some pink bubbly.

In March, everyone celebrated the lovely Thelma and Ivan who marked 65 years of wedded bliss! Thelma lives at Silverdale and spent the afternoon with her husband and daughter celebrating with a card from The Queen, delicious cake and a glass of bubbly.

The mothers of Silverdale were treated like the special ladies they truly are with their own Mother’s Day-themed handmade gift bags. Chef Lisa prepared a brilliant afternoon tea for the residents to enjoy too!

Also in March, the staff at Silverdale did an amazing job of bringing St Patrick’s Day to life for residents! They had an amazing day – the drinks were flowing, they did cupcake decorating, St Patrick’s Day bingo, Irish dancing and arts and crafts! Little helper Noah, the Irish leprechaun, was on hand to give out gift bags 😊☘️

To celebrate Easter in April, Silverdale held an Easter egg hunt fun day. Staff and residents had a great time searching the home for the hidden treasure!

Our care homes went all out to celebrate her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June. One of their amazing staff members, Alison, baked the most delicious cupcakes which residents had along with cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and of course, an Elizabeth sponge cake. What an amazing spread!

Silverdale hosted their own cinema afternoon in August at their in-house cinema room. After voting for their favourite films, the residents sat down to enjoy High Society alongside some tasty treats from the usherette tray. Resident Joan, who was an usherette in her younger years, played the part for the day and passed out ice cream, popcorn and drinks to her fellow residents. It was such a wonderful afternoon!

October marked Mental Health Awareness Day, which recognises the importance of mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. Residents at Silverdale spent the day designing posters and having conversations with staff about what makes them feel amazing and happy. They also shared their advice on what they do if they, or someone they know, are feeling blue.

Also in October, Borough Care celebrated our Life in Colour Awards. We all got together at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport for the award ceremony in celebration of the incredible work that our team have all done over the last year. It was a spectacular night for Silverdale, who won Care Home of the Year!

ALF Lindsay also received an Outstanding Colourful Care Award for her outstanding dedication and commitment to supporting Silverdale’s residents to live Life in Colour. Well deserved!

In November, Silverdale made and cut out dozens of poppies to decorate their windows, and made a memorial garden with 100 poppies for Remembrance Day. They also had poppy pins for each resident to wear which were kindly donated to the home last year.

One of Silverdale’s amazing carers, Jade did a fantastic job of decorating Christmas windows, designed exclusively for their home. The care and detail that she has put in to this for our residents to enjoy is outstanding

On Friday, Borough Care held our Christmas Tea Dance where most of our homes came together and had lots of fun singing and dancing with entertainers Adam and Lisa. ALF Lindsay did a wonderful job setting up the room. It was a fabulous afternoon – a big thank you to everyone involved for helping create more joyful memories for our residents!
