Reminiscing on 2022 at Bruce Lodge

By 13 December 2022Borough Care News

What a wonderful year Bruce Lodge have had! The home welcomed their new Manager Megan, who alongside ALFs Kiera and Olivia and the whole team have delivered countless Life in Colour moments for residents and their families.  We want to say a big thank you to everyone at Bruce Lodge – let’s take a look back at some of Bruce Lodge’s highlights of 2022!

In February,  Bruce Lodge had a brilliant time doing some biscuit decorating. The residents channelled their inner artists by piping beautiful patterns, shapes and designs onto some delicious sweet treats.

All of our homes celebrated Mother’s Day in their own special way in March. At Bruce Lodge, residents enjoyed a live singing performance before sitting down to a three-course meal from our fantastic catering team. Everyone received a box of chocolates and their own individual homemade cake, made by the in-house catering team. The staff really went all out for the occasion.

The whole gang at Bruce Lodge had a fantastic day with karaoke, a singer and a few glasses of Baileys and Guinness! Residents enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by the catering team who beautifully decorated the Guinness cake with shamrocks, leprechauns and rainbows.

Bruce Lodge hosted their own circus party in April! The staff dressed up in circus-themed costumes and handed out delicious sweet treats to the residents. They had a popcorn machine, slushy machine and ice cream, as well as a live singing performance. Everyone got involved in some circus activities, including plate spinning and a bean bag toss and, to finish, they all enjoyed a buffet made by their amazing chef, Maxine.

Bruce Lodge celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style – spot our Head of Catering and Hospitality Tony 😂  And just look at the amazing Afternoon Tea that Tony and his team laid on for the residents and their families.

Residents decorated cupcakes in beautiful rainbow designs before hosting a Pride party at the home in June. Some of their family members even came along to join in on the fun. Everyone sat down to a live singing performance as well as a drag show then finished the afternoon off with plenty of cake.

The home hosted their incredible Summer party in July. They had a very special live magician show as well as a visit from some members of the local police and fire station for some much-needed community spirit – the residents loved seeing the fire truck up close!

Bruce had their share of birthday’s in August as well as they marked Betty Smith’s 87th and Joan Fields’ 101st birthdays! They put on a fabulous party to mark the occasion and the residents all enjoyed lovely food, drink and plenty of music.

In September residents Renee and Bill celebrated 62 years of marriage. Home Manager Megan and ALF Olivia, went all out for the occasion by decorating the home and arranging a lovely cake and live entertainer. Renee absolutely loved her special afternoon with Bill and lots of memories were both shared and made. Congratulations to the lovely couple!

In October, Borough Care celebrated our Life in Colour Awards. We all got together at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport for the awards ceremony in celebration of the incredible work that our team have all done over the last year. It was a fab night for Bruce Lodge, whose Care Home Manager Megan Lachevre was presented The Game Changer award for being an influencer and ambassador for both Borough Care and Bruce Lodge, and who despite being at Bruce  less than a year, has driven amazing improvements in the home.

Bruce’s Senior Care Assistant, Ellie Whitakker also won an Outstanding Colourful Care Award for being a person who always provides exceptional individualised care and makes our residents smile the most. Ellie received lots of nominations, with fellow staff saying that she is mentioned all the time by residents and relatives.

In November, Bruce’s Care Assistant Faye came in on Remembrance Sunday to bring poppies in for the residents and staff. Faye is a cadet force volunteer and a reserve under officer for Stockport Detachment while also working in the home. Residents loved seeing her in uniform.

Bruce Lodge celebrated two very special ladies, Joyce (90) and Lilly Ann (85), who share the same birthday in November. Both residents had a wonderful time, enjoying every moment of their celebrations alongside all their friends and family.

Now as we’ve reached December, Christmas has officially arrived at Bruce Lodge! Every little detail looks so beautiful and we cannot wait for all of the resident’s families to see it!
